Recently, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) issued a judgment in which it asked Poland to “stop the practice of detaining juveniles subject to correctional proceedings without a specific judicial decision,” a disastrous practice in which young suspects are jailed―often for months―while their alleged crimes are investigated. The case of Grabowski v. Poland, which resulted in the European Court’s call for change, concerned a juvenile (17 years old at the time) who was arrested on suspicion of committing several armed robberies and placed in pretrial detention (schronisko dla nieletnich in Polish, or “shelter for juveniles”) for three months while his case…

Вийшло друком перше дослідження, присвячене дотриманню прав і гарантій затриманих осіб в Україні. Лише 1% осіб в Україні дізнається про свої права на місці затримання. Тільки 6% затриманих з явними ознаками поганого стану здоров’я, включаючи побиття, отримують медичну допомогу. У 100% випадків правоохоронці не зазначають у протоколах правильні дані про місце, дату та час фактичного затримання. Такими є дані дослідження «Права людини за зачиненими дверима», присвяченого дотриманню прав на мовчання, інформацію, медичну допомогу, адвоката і переклад.

У ньому – майже сотня інтерв’ю з правоохоронцями, захисниками та затриманими особами, 827 годин безпосередніх спостережень за щоденною роботою працівників органів та адвокатів, проведені дослідниками у Закарпатській, Дніпропетровській, Одеській, Хмельницькій областях та Києві.
